The attractions of the two imperial towns, Fes and Marrakech, will be revealed on the included guided excursions. You may find several original riads in the center of each imperial city, adjacent to the most popular sights.
Along with spending the night in a Berber tent in the middle of the magnificent Erg Chebbi dunes in Merzouga, Sahara.
To reach Chefchaouan, one of the most beautiful towns at the base of the Rif mountains, we will travel today via the Rif highlands and Tetouan city, taking in the breathtaking mountain scenery along the way.
The central plaza of the Chefchaouen medina was built in the form of a Spanish plaza, and it was flanked by unique shops selling arts and crafts, restaurants with rooftop seating, and cozy cafés where you could spend the evening taking in the fresh air and the scenery.
Our 6-day desert journey from Tangier to Marrakech begins with a hearty breakfast at the riad before heading off for the Volubilis crossing through Ouazan and other Rif settlements. The Roman remains at Volubilis are an important part of Moroccan history, and they’ll be explored during our trip.
After lunch, we’ll continue our journey to Meknes city (the 17th-century legacy), where we’ll explore the ancient walls of the medina, bab el Mansour, and the revered Moulay Ismail mausoleum. We depart for Fes city in the late afternoon, where we will spend the night.
We will leave your accommodation in the morning for the drive to Merzouga via Errachidia and Erfoud. The Ziz Gorge and the Tiz Ntalghamt pass are two of the most interesting areas you’ll see on your journey. As you get closer to Errachidia, the landscape will start to change, revealing glimpses of the desert. This is where you’ll stop for lunch and experience the warm hospitality of the local Berbers.
After that, we’ll drive down Ziz Valley on route to Erfoud (a well-known fossils city) and Rissani, pausing for scenic vistas along the way (with its famous souk). A drink of mint tea awaits us upon our afternoon arrival in Merzouga, followed by a camel ride into the desert, where we’ll spend the night listening to Berber music and trying our hands at sandboarding.
We get up early to see the sun rise over the Erg Chebbi sand dunes, then ride camels back to the hotel. After I eat and clean up in the morning.
The journey out of the desert will include driving via the Saghro mountains and hiking through the Todra Gorge before we reach Dades Valley, where we will spend the night. We slept the night at a riad/hotel in the Dades Gorges.
After a hearty breakfast at the hotel, you’ll depart for Kalaa M’gouna and Ouarzazate through the Dades Valley. The path of a thousand kasbahs leads through Dades Valley. Ouarzazate, Morocco’s “Cinema City,” and T-Hami El Glaoui’s massive Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah are all on our itinerary (the UNESCO heritage site).
After that, we’ll take a road trip into the High Atlas Mountains, stopping along the route to take in the breathtaking scenery and see some quaint Berber communities before finally arriving in Marrakech, where we’ll spend the night at a hotel.
